Employee Wellbeing | supporting line managers in the new working world

The pandemic has fundamentally shifted the way people work. Even in 2022, employers and employees are still adjusting to a hybrid working model and untangling the blurry lines of the home/work environment, while others are now navigating a wider return to the workplace.

This ‘new norm’ of employees working across various locations has presented many obstacles for middle-level managers. Amongst them, supporting the wellbeing of your team, wherever they work, has emerged as one of employers’ more pressing challenges.

With radical changes to working life over the past couple of years, many businesses simply haven’t had the bandwidth to invest in management training. As a result, many middle-level managers are unequipped to deal with wellbeing issues effectively and appropriately – at a time when poor mental health is becoming a growing problem.

Indeed, as well as adjusting to post-pandemic ways of working, 2022 has provided a steady stream of stressors for people to contend with. Having endured two years of uncertainty and upheaval, we’re now being bombarded with distressing news coverage around national and global issues, from the war in Ukraine to the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Unsurprisingly, these multiple stress factors mean people are more worried about day-to-day life than ever before, leading many individuals to experience stress, anxiety and depression.

Given we spend roughly a third of our lives at work – and the well-known fact that work can cause or exacerbate poor mental health – it falls upon employers to do something about it.

However, with teams more dispersed, managing wellbeing matters is likely to be more difficult than managers might anticipate, requiring new skills and a different approach.

With all of this in mind, what can HR professionals do to ensure that line managers have the right knowledge and tools to support the wellbeing of their teams? How can they identify issues in this new way of working? And how can they treat employees in a fair and empathetic way?

During this free, interactive 60-minute session, WorkNest’s industry experts, Senior HR Consultant Rob Evans and HR Consultant Laura Bennett, will be sharing some much-needed guidance on these matters, including:

  • A recap of employers’ responsibilities in relation to mental health
  • Short case studies covering the three most common wellbeing cases, from recurring absence and poor performance to burnout
  • Advice that can be given to those who manage workers with different working arrangements, i.e. remote, hybrid and onsite

We’ll be rounding off the session with a live Q&A, so if you have a query you would like our experts to answer, submit it in advance via the registration form or use the chat box during the webinar.
