Now hiring (on TikTok?) | Why social media is your secret weapon for recruitment in 2025

Written by Danielle Fargnoli-Read on 19 May 2025

Job boards are great and a tried and tested way to reach candidates, but in 2025, if you’re only posting roles on traditional platforms, you could be missing out on a massive pool of talent — think those who are scrolling Instagram while drinking a cup of tea or watching TikTok content on the train to work.

The UK job market is competitive, candidates are savvier than ever, and the best ones? They’re on social media. If you’re not advertising roles where people actually spend a lot of their time… you might be missing out!

In this blog, we explore why social media recruitment is effective and share some top tips for attracting candidates through platforms like TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Why social media recruiting actually works

Social media isn’t just for memes or holiday pics — it’s where your next hire could be. Whether they’re actively job-hunting or just passively open to a scroll-worthy opportunity, platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and even TikTok, are becoming powerful tools for finding and attracting top talent.

And the stats back it up:

  • Over 70% of UK adults use social media daily.
  • LinkedIn has 35+ million users in the UK alone.
  • TikTok is now viewed as a job search platform by a large number of top talent!

So… why not meet them where they already are?

5 creative ways to use social media for recruitment

1

Show some personality

Nobody wants to read “We’re hiring a dynamic self-starter…” again. Spice it up! Talk like a human. Throw in emojis. Add a GIF. Make your tone match your culture — people are more likely to apply when they feel something.

2

Go visual or go home

Job ads with images or video get a lot more engagement. Share a reel of your office dog, a day-in-the-life of your team, or a behind-the-scenes look at your team discussion sessions.

3

Use employee advocacy

Encourage your team to share openings on their own socials. People trust people — especially when they’re not recruiters. Add a simple message and let them hype it up in their own voice.

4

Get creative with TikTok and reels

Think your company isn’t “cool enough” for TikTok? Think again. From “A day in the life of a recruiter” to “Top 3 reasons to work here” — short-form content is the new job board. Plus, it’s fun (and free).

5

Use hashtags and tags effectively

#Hiring is fine but try to be niche: #DigitalJobsUK #BristolTechJobs #WorkInMarketing
Tag your location, your team, your dog — whatever helps the algorithm to learn more about you and your organisation.

What not to do

❌ Post a dull job description as a plain text post
❌ Forget to include how to apply
❌ Overuse corporate jargon (phrases such as a “fast-paced, blue-sky-thinking, KPI-driven ecosystem” can turn off candidates)

Final thought

At the end of the day, your job ad is content, and content competes for attention. In between cat videos, football memes, and viral videos, your role needs to stand out.

Be human. Be clear. Be creative.

Because in today’s market, the best candidates don’t just apply — they follow, like, and share. So, make your job ad the one they don’t scroll past.
