5 key recruitment trends from 2024

Written by Danielle Fargnoli-Read on 12 December 2024

As 2024 winds down and recruitment slows ahead of the festive season, itโ€™s a perfect time to reflect on the trends that shaped organisationsโ€™ hiring practices this year.

From technological advancements to shifting workforce expectations, the past 12 months brought pivotal changes to how organisations attract and retain top talent.

Having worked closely with employers and hiring managers as they navigate the end-to-end recruitment process, weโ€™ve identified five key recruitment trends that defined this transformative year.

1. AI took recruitment efficiency to the next level

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into recruitment reached new heights in 2024. Companies have begun to embrace AI-driven platforms to streamline hiring processes, from candidate screening and skills assessments to automating interview scheduling.

Organisations that used AI tools have reported a significant boost in efficiency and a more diverse talent pool. Across the market, AI tools not only saw a reduction in time-to-hire but also enhanced the accuracy of candidate-job fit assessments for some organisations.

2. Hybrid and remote work models stuck

If 2023 marked the normalisation of hybrid work, 2024 cemented it as a standard. Job seekers prioritised flexibility, with remote work options ranking high on their list of requirements.

Companies adapted by promoting flexible schedules and investing in technologies that support distributed teams. Offering remote and hybrid work options became a non-negotiable aspect of talent attraction strategies, especially in competitive industries like technology and marketing.

3. Employer branding gave companies a competitive edge

2024 saw a renewed emphasis on employer branding as organisations competed to stand out in a crowded job market. Transparent communication about company culture, values, and career development opportunities became a priority, with social media, employee testimonials, and career site enhancements appearing to have played a crucial role.

Candidates increasingly sought alignment between their personal values and an organisationโ€™s missions, making authentic employer branding a critical differentiator for candidates in the crowded market.

4. Employersโ€™ commitment to DEI paid dividends

While DEI has been a focus for years, 2024 saw measurable actions and outcomes take centre stage. From blind recruitment processes to partnerships with diverse talent pipelines, companies demonstrated their full commitment to building inclusive workplaces.

Job seekers gravitated towards companies that didnโ€™t just talk about DEI but actively demonstrated progress through transparent metrics and initiatives.

5. Data-driven insights drove recruitment decisions

Data analytics became a cornerstone of employersโ€™ recruitment strategies in 2024:

  • Organisations used data to identify trends, predict hiring needs, and measure the success of recruitment campaigns.
  • Predictive analytics helped companies proactively address talent shortages and improve workforce planning.
  • Recruiters and hiring teams equipped with these actionable insights were better positioned to make informed decisions, enhancing both speed and quality of hires.

Final thoughts

The recruitment landscape in 2024 was marked by adaptability and innovation. Companies that embraced these trends not only navigated the competitive talent market successfully but also laid the groundwork for a future-ready workforce.

As we look ahead to 2025, these insights and lessons learned will continue to shape and refine recruitment strategies in the year to come.
