Overview
Latest HSE figures show that in 2022/23:
- 135 workers were killed in work-related accidents
- 561,000 workers sustained a self-reported non-fatal injury in the workplace
- 60,645 injuries to employees were also reported under RIDDOR
- 3.7 million working days were lost to injuries, with each case resulting in an average of 6 days off work
These figures are higher than any employer would like to see, and while there have been large reductions in both fatal and non-fatal workplace injuries in recent decades, the current rate of injuries (1,750 per 100,000 workers) is similar to the 2018/19 pre-coronavirus level, suggesting a need for a renewed focus on incident prevention.
