This World Health and Safety at Work Day, Join Ellis Whittam and Towergate Health & Protection for all the latest health and safety guidance, with a particular focus on whistleblowing.
Ellis Whittam is delighted to host our latest insightful webinar for employers, COVID-19 General Update – Featuring: Whistleblowing in Health & Safety, in collaboration with Towergate Health & Protection, as we continue to support businesses throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
With workplace safety at the forefront of everyone’s minds, COVID-19 has created a perfect breeding ground for whistleblowing claims, whereby a worker alleges that they were victimised, disciplined or dismissed for making a ‘protected disclosure’ concerning the safety of the working environment.
Evidence is emerging of a sudden increase in COVID-related whistleblowing reports and litigation. In fact, in 2017, only 1.5% of claims brought against Ellis Whittam clients had a whistleblowing element to them; in 2020, this skyrocketed to 15.4%.
According to one survey, 35% of employees who were back in the workplace in September 2020 were concerned about COVID-19 transmission while doing their job. Indeed, reports surfaced earlier this year of employees being forced to go back into workplaces that weren’t COVID-compliant, with 4,000 workers having ‘blown the whistle’ to the HSE between 6 and 14 January 2021 alone.
In this context, the potential threat to employers is significant.
Your first line of defence against whistleblowing scenarios is to ensure your workplace is compliant with the latest COVID-19 health and safety regulations. With this in mind, Ellis Whittam is partnering with Towergate Health & Protection to host a free live Q&A exclusively for their clients.
Hosted by Regional Health & Safety Manager Oliver Williams, this 30-minute interactive session will offer guidance on important topics such as:
