Who should attend?

WorkNest’s Fire Warden and Fire Extinguisher Training is a one-day course designed to support those with fire warden responsibility. Our courses are designed to teach practical skills, from using the right type of fire extinguisher for different types of fires, to coordinating evacuations as a Fire Warden.

What will I learn?

Module 1 (am) – Fire Warden Training (approx. 3.5 hours)

  • Relevant legislation
  • The fire triangle
  • Smoke behaviour and the causes of fire
  • Faulty and misuse of electrical equipment
  • Awareness of human behaviour in fires
  • The principles of fire prevention and protection
  • Fire marshal duties: daily and in the event of a fire
  • Safely searching for signs of a fire
  • Classifications of fire
  • Types of fire extinguisher and their uses
  • The importance of selecting the correct fire extinguisher
  • Fighting a fire
  • Multiple choice assessment (12 multiple choice questions with a 75% pass mark)

Module 2 (pm) – Fire Extinguisher Training (approx. 2.5 hours)

Classroom-based theoretical training, covering:

  • Relevant legislation
  • The fire triangle
  • Standards and specifications for fire extinguishers
  • Common causes of fire
  • Classifications of fire
  • Types of fire extinguisher and their uses
  • The importance of selecting the correct fire extinguisher
  • Fighting a fire
  • Multiple choice assessment (12 multiple choice questions with a 75% pass mark)

Followed by:

Practical use of fire extinguishers, giving participants the experience of putting out fires under controlled conditions. Delegates will practise using a 6L water extinguisher and a 2kg CO2 extinguisher

Please note: Practical fire extinguisher training with a live flame will only take place if, it is safe to do so, weather permitting.
