Return to work interviews after sickness are often viewed as unnecessary admin work, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, these kinds of interviews are an essential part of managing employee attendance and reducing bogus absences. They’re not a legal requirement, but if an employee has been absent from work for a significant period, they are always recommended.
In the UK, employees have no statutory right to time off work to move house and will have to use their annual leave in almost all cases. Of course, you may choose to allow additional time off at your discretion to help make the transition easier on employees. Whatever your stance, this should be clearly laid out in the contract or employee handbook to avoid issues.
Most employers are aware that discriminating against employees is against the law, but fewer may be unaware of the differences between direct and indirect discrimination. Indirect discrimination is less overt than direct discrimination, but it is still illegal and can have serious repercussions if left unfixed.
