A plastics manufacturer has been fined

This occurred after an employee suffered burn injuries to his hand.

The worker was told to routinely check the temperature of a moving rubber roller by putting his hand on it!

On doing so his hand was pulled into a sanding machine.

Unsurprisingly, an investigation by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) found the system for maintaining the roller was unsafe.

Greenbox OEM Limited admitted breaking the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.

It was fined £4,000 and ordered to pay costs of £2,920.

If only

The HSE stress employers are responsible for coming up with safe ways of working.

The incident would have been prevented if a suitably safe system of work was in place.
