25 April, 9.00 - 10.00 am

Overview

WorkNest statistics show a 23% increase in whistleblowing cases from 2022 to 2023.

It’s important that employees can report illegal acts and other serious wrongdoings committed by their employer, or by other employees, without fearing repercussions.

For employers, whistleblowing claims are much more complex and riskier than an average claim. In addition to ambiguity over what constitutes ‘whistleblowing’, there’s also the prospect of potentially unlimited compensation.

What's on the agenda?

Hosted by our Head of Education Team and Solicitor, Jane Hallas, our upcoming Education Breakfast Briefing will provide you with insights and guidance to help you address the complexities of whistleblowing.

During this 60-minute session, you will learn:

  • Employers’ legal duties: Learn the legal obligations and responsibilities surrounding whistleblowing within the education sector, including the requirements for academies and MATs as well as the independent sector.
  • What does and doesn’t count as whistleblowing: Gain clarity on what constitutes whistleblowing and what should be dealt with as a grievance – a crucial distinction for both employers and employees.
  • Potential problems and pitfalls: Understand how to overcome common obstacles and avoid legal risks when dealing with whistleblowers, including automatic unfair dismissal claims, claims for detriments, and other potential liabilities.
