A day in the life of a WorkNest Recruitment Specialist
Written by Danielle Fargnoli-Read on 26 March 2026

Ever wondered what a Recruitment Specialist really does all day?
From the outside, outsourced HR recruitment can appear straightforward – post jobs, scan CVs, and set up interviews. Behind the scenes, it’s a fast-paced, people-focused role that’s equal parts strategy, problem-solving, and relationship management.
As a Recruitment Specialist from WorkNest’s HR Consultancy division, I spend my days supporting employers across the UK – getting to grips with their hiring needs, tackling hard-to-fill roles, and helping them find the right people at the right time. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what that actually involves.

8.00 am – Planning the day ahead
After a coffee and breakfast, I start by checking my inbox and mapping out the day. There’s usually a mix of new roles to brief on, candidates to schedule for interviews, interviews already in the diary, and client updates to prepare. No two days look the same, so getting organised early is key.
9.00 am – Client briefings and strategy calls
My mornings are often spent speaking with clients. It’s not just about reviewing a job description; it’s about really understanding the role. I take time to learn about the team, the culture, the challenges behind the vacancy, and what success looks like in the longer term. We also look into strategic advertising and suitable timescales for each role.
At consultancy level, I’m advising as much as I’m delivering. That sometimes means challenging expectations, whether that’s salary, job scope, or the idea of a “perfect” candidate. Setting things up properly at this stage makes all the difference later.
12.30 pm – Candidate conversations
Midday is usually filled with candidate calls and responding to emails. These conversations go far beyond the CV – I focus on understanding motivations, career goals, cultural fit, and any concerns they may have.
This deeper insight means I can present clients with candidates who aren’t just qualified on paper, but genuinely aligned with the role and organisation – saving time and reducing the risk of a poor hire.
1.30 pm – Shortlisting and client updates
In the afternoon, I turn my attention to shortlisting and presenting candidates to clients. I review CVs in detail and highlight key strengths of each candidate in line with the client’s requirements.
A strong shortlist isn’t just a collection of suitable CVs; it’s a carefully curated selection that saves clients time and leads to better hiring decisions.
3.00 pm – Interview coordination and feedback for UK employers
With interviews underway, communication becomes a huge focus. I prepare candidates so they feel confident going in, coordinate schedules across busy diaries, and gather feedback.
A big part of my role is managing expectations, keeping both clients and candidates informed, engaged, and aligned throughout the process. By handling the back-and-forth:
- Clients can focus on the interview itself, knowing the coordination, communication, and follow-up are all taken care of.
- I ensure interviews run smoothly and feedback is shared quickly, so clients can make timely, confident hiring decisions.
- I keep everything on track, saving clients time and helping to avoid unnecessary delays or drop-offs.
- I create a positive candidate experience, helping clients secure stronger candidates who stay engaged from interview through to offer.
4.30 pm – Offers, negotiations and problem-solving
This is often the most unpredictable part of the day. From offer discussions to counteroffers and last-minute concerns, I need to think quickly and find solutions that work for everyone.
I’m balancing salary, benefits, notice periods, candidate motivations, and client constraints. It’s rarely as simple as an offer being accepted – this stage takes careful negotiation and experience. This is where support from a skilled Recruitment Specialist can really pay off as it reduces the risk of offers falling through and takes the stress of tricky conversations off clients’ shoulders.

5.15 pm – Admin, follow-ups and looking ahead
I wrap up the day by updating systems, following up with candidates and clients, and planning priorities for tomorrow. Recruitment can be fast-moving, so staying on top of communication is essential.
Even after hours things can shift; candidates respond, offers evolve, and new roles can come in. It’s all part of the job, and it means clients don’t have to keep one eye on their inbox or deal with constant back-and-forth outside of working hours.
