Dealing with Employee Disputes | Essential Policies, Training Managers and Preventing Tribunal Claims

According to our recent Mind the Gap report, over a third of employees wouldn’t hesitate to take legal action against their employer. 18% said they would do so because they understood their rights as an employee, and a further 10% said they would take action anyway if they felt they had been unfairly treated.

At the same time, 64% of employers would put off taking action against an employee, with one fifth putting this down to lack of confidence in line managers’ abilities when it comes to handling employee relations issues.

With disillusioned workforces to manage and the balance of power potentially shifting, join our free webinar to ensure vital policies are in place, managers have the crucial skills needed to deal with disputes compliantly, and critical processes are followed to ensure fair treatment and protect your organisation against costly Tribunal claims.

18 February at 11:00

As of 2017, it costs employees nothing to take their employer to an Employment Tribunal, and claims have unsurprisingly risen year-on-year ever since. Unfortunately for employers, the pandemic has only made matters worse, putting immense strain on the employer-employee relationship and creating a breeding ground for workforce disputes, with factors such as furlough, shifting dynamics as a result of homeworking and an all-round greater awareness of employer responsibilities and employee rights being a few of the main contributors.

According to our experts, a combination of staff shortages and increased opportunities due to remote working may make employers feel as though employees are now in the driving seat, making them more reluctant to take their workforce to task. However, failing to take action could set a dangerous precedent about what employees can get away with.

Our advice? Businesses will need good knowledge of employment law, solid policies, and confident and competent managers.

The good news is it’s in employers’ gift to do something about it, namely through supporting and upskilling managers while ensuring current policies are robust and processes are compliant.

During our upcoming free 45-minute webinar, WorkNest’s Director of Legal Services, James Tamm, and HR Business Partner, Hannah Copeland, will share some of the more concerning findings from our recent Mind the Gap report and offer practical recommendations to help you protect your organisation and take the power back, including:

  • The essential policies employers need in place to manage employees (and when to use them)
  • How to train and support managers, and why this is key to handling employee disputes effectively
  • The tools you can use to facilitate communication and dispute resolution between employers and employees
  • Tribunal claims 101: the process, costs, most common claim types to be alert to, and other important statistics

At the end of the session, our expert hosts will be taking your questions on the topics discussed. In recognition of the limited time we have available, we recommend submitting your specific queries in advance via the registration form.

All questions submitted before or during the webinar will be answered in a helpful FAQ which we will share with all registrants after the session.
